I had this at a friend’s house for a bbq. I’ve heard of Negra Modelo, but never Modelo Especial. I figured it was worth a shot.
Style: American Adjunct Lager
Trivia: This beer was introduced into the market in 1966.
Random: I tend to not like Mexican beers, so take this review with a grain of salt.
I went to a BBQ tonight expecting something along the lines of Bud Light or Coors Light. I was happy to see that I would be having a beer that I never had before, Modelo Especial. After talking to my friend, she told me that she had it in Mexico. The brew poured (from a can) with a one finger head that dissipated quickly with no lacing. The beer was a golden yellow color with moderate carbonation present. I expected a little more carbonation than I got. I get some sweetness on the nose, but not much. I also got some sweetness on the taste. There wasn’t really a great deal of complexity to this brew, nor did I expect any. I wouldn’t go out and buy this myself, but, it went down easy and was more tasty than a Coors Light or other light macro beer.
