I’ve been waiting to try this beer with Nicole, since I think it’s something that she would really enjoy. Finally, she’s ready to try it…
Style: Saison/Farmhouse Ale
Trivia: Sorachi Ace hops are known for their lemon zest/lemongrass aroma, according to BeerAdvocate.
Random: Someone at work today asked me if I could only drink one beer for the rest of my life, what would it be? Such a difficult question…I think it would be Stone Ruination IPA.
On the bottle, it says that this beer is like “sunshine in a glass.” Well, if that doesn’t set the bar high. This pours with a nice, white, fluffy two finger head that lingered for awhile with decent lacing. It’s a cloudy, orange color, but very pale. I could see on the pour that there’s a healthy amount of carbonation on it. On the nose, I get some citrus and spice. On first taste, I get some citrus, like lemon zest (which makes sense, given the Sorachi Ace hops) and then some sweetness lingers and then there’s some subtle bitterness on the finish. Nicole says that she gets citrus on the nose and not a lot of spice. Others have said that they get lemongrass, which I can easily see (to me it comes as lemon zest). She tastes it and says that there’s a sweetness to it and that she likes it. She deems this her favorite so far. It’s really interesting and one of the more highly carbonated brews that I’ve had in the saison category. It seems as if a lot of beer blogs have been reviewing this one lately, and everyone seems to like it (this blogger included). It it such a dangerously nice brew, and I say dangerous, because at 7.6% ABV, you could down a few without even noticing the alcohol. From what I’ve read, this is a limited supply (and I just got told by Nicole to go pick up two more bottles immediately), so get it while you can. And it kinda does taste like sunshine in a glass…
