Day 1 of my 3 day work week is over. I had an oral presentation today for class and I just have 2 more days of class left. We’re watching the Jets-Giants preseason game. This works because Nic loves the Jets and I hate the Giants. She’s excited for football season, I’m more of a baseball season person. Either way, I’ll be happy when it cools off. So, onto the brew.
Style: Belgian IPA
Trivia: This beer won second place at the California State Fair in 2008 in the “Specialty Beer Category.”
Random: I’ve read a lot of good things about this brew. I had Flying Dog’s Raging Bitch this past weekend, which was my first Belgian IPA, which I really enjoyed. I’m expecting good things from this brew.
I grab for one of the stemless wine glasses and find that it’s cracked. Ugh. Not good. Nicole tells me to go buy a tulip glass. I grab the other glass and pour the brew. This beer is a burnt orange color with a one finger, fluffy, pure white head that leaves some significant lacing behind. On the nose, there is some citrus and booze. There is also some spice going on. The first taste that I get is pine and grapefruits, but then it starts to get a little sweeter, like what I would expect from a Belgian. A beer like this would have some sort of identity crisis, but this works really well. The pine goes really well with the alcohol and the hint of sweetness. I really love this beer. There is a bit of alcohol burn at the end, but not overwhelming and not nearly what I would expect from a 9% brew. There is moderate carbonation on this brew, and this is a moderately thick brew without being syrupy. This is a brew I could see grabbing for time after time. This is a very complex brew, but not overwhelming. Awesome brew. Don’t go get this brew. Leave more for me!
