So, last night, my girlfriend took me to one of my favorite spots in New Brunswick. It’s basically a Rutgers institution and since we both went there, it’s only appropriate that I go there with her. Stuff Yer Face is one of my favorite dive bars in the area and the food is amazing. Their beer list is also quite impressive. This was the first selection of the night.
Trivia: According to wikipedia.org, “In 1963, Moortgat began brewing its Maredsous line of abbey beers, under license of the monks of Maredsous Abbey. There are currently three beers offered under the Maredsous name: Maredsous Blonde (blonde ale, 6% ABV), Maredsous Brune (dubbel, 8% ABV), and Maredsous Triple (trippel, 10% ABV).”
Random: I tried the Man vs. Food boli. Not nearly as good as the Laura boli.
This brew poured with a one finger white head into the very nice Chimay glass provided. Note to self: put Chimay glass on Christmas list. Anyways, it dissipated slowly and left some lacing on the glass. The body was a hazy orange with a lot of visible carbonation. The nose had some golden fruit, apricots, booze and a bit of bread and Belgian yeast. There was a lot going on. The taste was even better than the nose. There was a lot of yeast with some syrupy sweetness and golden fruit. I also got a hint of pineapple and maybe even peach. The carbonation was lower than I expected and the body was a bit on the oily side. The booze was more hidden in the taste than in the nose. The booze made its appearance at the end with a little bit of bite and warming. This was definitely a great tripel that I would have again.
