Unibroue Trois Pistoles

Today wasn’t a bad day, despite it being a Monday. I had a webinar at work in the morning for a few hours, which really made the day go by pretty quickly. There really wasn’t anything else interesting to report. Given the fact that I have Friday off this week, I bet the rest of the week will drag. I decided to take Friday off because tomorrow, I have the Fire Academy, which means that I can’t take the ball and chain out on Valentine’s Day (although I’m meeting her afterwards). So, Thursday, we’re going to this restaurant that I’ve really wanted to try and then I can sleep in on Friday. So, anyways, onto the review. This is a brew that I’ve had once before, but I really don’t remember how I felt about it.

ABV: 9%

Style: Belgian Strong Dark Ale

Trivia: According to wikipedia, “Trois-Pistoles is a town in and the seat of the Les Basques Regional County Municipality within the Bas-Saint-Laurent region of Quebec. It is also the county seat. The town is located on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River. A ferry crosses the river to Les Escoumins on the north shore. The port facilities are also used by fishing boats and scuba divers. The town is the site of the University of Western Ontario’s annual French immersion program, which has existed since 1932. It is the oldest such program in Canada.”

Random: It looks like the Eagles are going to franchise my boy, Desean Jackson. Nice!

This brew poured with a two finger, thick white head that dissipated relatively quickly and left no lacing on the glass. The body of the beer was a dark brown with more visible carbonation than I expected to see. The nose started with a bit of dark fruit (especially fig), brown sugar, caramel and bready yeast. The taste started with the dark fruits that were apparent in the nose. I also got some spice to it with a decent amount of sweetness. The body was towards the heavier side with some prickly carbonation. The booze became apparent on the end of the beer, which lasted for awhile. This was just a fantastically complex beer that I really enjoyed. Get your hands on this beer now!

Untappd Rating: 5.0/5.0
