This should be the last review for the night. I’m still in shock about how productive that I was today. Usually when I take a day off, I hope that I’m productive, but something always happens. Today was the complete opposite. I’m finally to the point of the night where I can relax and watch tv. But, there is absolutely nothing that I want to watch. I’m stuck watching “Women Behind Bars.” It’s riveting, really. Maybe a brew will make this watchable…
Style: Rye Beer
Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Serious hop bitterness, along with an unyielding grapefruit bouquet from the Amarillo dry hop, balances the malty richness of four varieties of imported Belgian caramel malts. Pours a spectacular crimson with a creamy tan head. A generous addition of rye malt accentuates a spicy, crisp finish.”
Random: I hate when there’s no baseball to watch. Come on Spring Training!
This brew poured with half a finger of white head that dissipated very quickly and left no lacing on the glass. The body was a cloudy reddish-brown with low carbonation visible. Even when I poured this beer, I knew this beer was going to have a serious nose, as I could smell the rye as I was pouring it into the glass. The nose presented not only with rye, but with a decent amount of malt sweetness and a hint of hops. The rye really came through on the nose though and was definitely dominating. The taste was definitely filled with rye, but also balanced with caramel malt and then finishes with a pleasant hop bitterness. The finish lasts for awhile with rye and malt. The body was towards the thicker side with low carbonation. Honestly, I usually am not thrilled with rye beers, but this is one that really highlights the rye and it was a fantastic flavor with a great malt backbone and hop finish to balance it out. Another great offering from Founders. I would definitely have this one again.
