Lagunitas Imperial Red Ale

Another weekend comes to a close. The weekends really are too short. Today, I spent 5 hours listening to a guy give me a speech about a HVAC system. I think that I learned more today about HVAC systems than I’ve ever known in my life. I ran a bunch of errands today and was pretty productive for the afternoon. I watched most of The Walking Dead tonight and now it’s definitely time for a review. This is from my California beer six-pack and I love the brewery that it comes from. Let’s try this “limited release.”

ABV: 7.8%

Style: American Amber/Red Ale

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Big on the spicy, skunky hops, bigger on the rich red malt. A variation of our original 1993 “Lagunitas Red”. Still in the handy 6-pack carriers for your enjoyment.”

Random: I watched all of The Walking Dead Season 1 this weekend. It really is an amazing show.

This beer poured with a half a finger of slightly off white head that dissipated relatively slowly and left some lacing on my pint glass. The body was a clear, reddish-brown color with healthy, visible carbonation on it. The nose on this beer was really nice. It had a lot of grapefruit and hops on it with a bit of malt at the end. This was definitely a bit more hoppy than I’ve come to expect of this style. The taste started with a bit of the grapefruit apparent in the nose, then some floral notes while finally goes into some sweet, toasted malts that last until the long finish. The body was a medium thickness with a decent amount of carbonation. I really got into the flavors of this beer. Even my sister “didn’t hate this one.” The alcohol did make a slight appearance on the end of the brew, but it wasn’t intense. I loved this brew. I would definitely have it again. Another impressive brew from Lagunitas.

Untappd Rating: 4.0/5.0
