Magic Hat Plus/Minus

Final review of the night. I’ve fallen behind, so I’m really trying to play catch up. This is the other Magic Hat brew that I haven’t tried. It seems from the label that Magic Hat is trying to figure out whether to keep this in the lineup, asking if you like it or not. Definitely interesting. I love seeing when breweries want to bring new beers into the fold. So, let’s get this one open…

ABV: 4.2%

Style: English Dark Mild Ale

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Brewed with the tradition English style in mind, +/- aims to bring drinkers a truly sessionable craft beer experience. Tried it yet?”

Random: I can’t believe Junior Seau passed. I remember watching him as a kid. Very sad.

The brew poured with a half a finger of white head that dissipated quickly and left no lacing on the glass. The body was a clear, dark brown with moderate visible carbonation. The nose had some nuttiness coupled with a subtle maple note. It was actually really nice and reminiscent of a brown ale. The taste was a bit overcarbonated, but had some nuttiness. Honestly, it wasn’t enough nuttiness for me and the light body and high carbonation took away from the flavor, making it like a hazelnut spritzer. The finish was pretty quick with nothing of note. This beer was only alright for me. It missed on body and flavor for me. If it was as good as the nose, I really would have enjoyed the brew, but it totally missed the mark. I definitely would not have this beer again. A big disappointment for me.
