Magic Hat Over The Pils (Humdinger Series)

Posted: July 8, 2012 in American Double/Imperial Pilsner, Magic Hat Brewing Company, Reviews

After spending all of yesterday running around with the kid and this morning running around with the future in-laws this morning, I’m absolutely exhausted. Who knew that extended family time was so exhausting. So, I’m planning on spending the rest of tonight watching “The Walking Dead” and banging out some beer reviews.

ABV: 8.1%

Style: American Double/Imperial Pilsner

Trivia: This brew is available from April to July in corked and caged bottles and draft.

Random: I think my preferred weapon for the zombie apocalypse would be an assault rifle with a huge cache of ammo.

The brew poured with a huge three finger head (it almost overflowed the glass) that was pure white. It dissipated very slowly and left a lot of lacing remaining on the pint glass. The body was a clear golden color with lots of active carbonation visible. It looked slightly darker than a normal pilsner. The nose was pretty mild, a little bit of grain, grass and booze. The taste started with a bit of bitter and grassy hops. It then went into an herbal or floral flavor. The toasty malt came through in a very subtle manner at the end. The brew was towards the thicker side of pilsner with a lot of carbonation. The finish was long and bitter with a definite booze presence. I really don’t know what to make of this beer. It has a lot more hop presence than a regular pilsner and was more flavorful. After drinking it for a few minutes, I definitely like the beer, although it’s not the best one I’ve ever had. Worth a shot.
