Ithaca Partly Sunny

As usual, I have a few reviews to post. This was one that I had last night at Kate’s. I was really in the mood for a hefeweizen or a witbier when I last went to Spirits Unlimited. I saw a bunch of them, but I’m to the point that I’ve reviewed so many beers I have trouble remembering what I’ve had and what I haven’t. I left my phone in the car so I went with one that I was sure I hadn’t had. I tend to like Ithaca brews. As I was reviewing this one, I wondered why I haven’t had more beers from them. Anyways, I cracked this one open last night after my run.

ABV: 4.9%

Style: Witbier

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Partly Sunny is a hazy-straw colored wheat beer brewed with coriander, and generous amounts of orange and lemon zest. It’s fermented with our house yeast strain to make it a crisp and refreshing summer ale! It’s a light and refreshing beer with a subtle spicy start and a smooth citrus finish.”

Random: Running in this weather is ridiculous. Sweat was just pouring off of me…even at 2100 last night.

This brew poured with a half a finger of pure white head that lingered for awhile, but didn’t leave any lacing on the glass. The body was a hazy, dark yellow color with lots of active carbonation. This was what I wanted to see in a wheat beer. The nose was really fresh and fruity. I got a lot of citrus. Specifically, I got notes of oranges, tangerines and some wheat. I don’t know if it was because I haven’t had a wheat beer in awhile, but this one just smelled amazing. The taste was a little different than the nose, albeit still really enjoyable. I got citrus notes, but instead of the oranges and tangerines, I got more lemon notes and orange in the background. The beer was a little more tart than I was expecting, but it definitely worked. Another thing that surprised me was that I didn’t get any spice and only a minute amount of wheat. I’m not complaining as I was really digging the tart citrus. The body was medium thickness with generous carbonation that made this one go down really easily. The finish was quick. I loved this beer. It was exactly what I was looking for on a hot summer day…one that I could throw back with lots of flavor. I would definitely have this one again.
