Houblon Chouffe N’ice Chouffe

This is the second brew that I had at Brickwall. It’s rare that I go to a beer bar and I find a bunch of different beers that I haven’t tried. I’ve only had one other selection from this brewery and really enjoyed it. When I saw this on the menu, I decided I had to try it. Here’s how it went.

ABV: 10%

Style: Belgian Strong Dark Ale

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “The N’ICE CHOUFFE is a strong dark beer that will warm you up during the winter months. It is spiced (with thyme and curaçao) and a light hop taste, a well-balanced beer. The N’ICE CHOUFFE is unfiltered, and re-fermented in the bottle as well as in the keg.”

Random: I hate the fact that I have to wait for a new episode of “The Walking Dead” until February.

This brew poured with a barely there white head that left some lacing on the glass. The body was a cloudy dark brown color with light carbonation visible. The nose was relatively light with some herbal qualities to it and Belgian yeast. The taste was much stronger than the nose. I got a lot of herbs, specifically thyme. There was a hint of orange as well. I also got some dark fruit and orange. The body was on the thicker side with moderate carbonation. The finish was quick and filled with herbs. This was one of the more unique beers that I’ve tried. The herbal quality to it really added side something to it. I would definitely have this one again.
