Brouwerij Huyghe Van Diest Fruli Strawberry Beer

By now, I’ve assumed that everyone has seen the footage of the plane crash in San Francisco. I used to have a huge fear of flying (go on a plane with a five-year old and you’ll get over it quickly too, trust me) and seeing all of the footage on tv was disconcerting to say the least. I’m just glad that given the scale of damage to the plane, most people were alright. Let’s go onto something happier, shall we? Strawberry beer definitely sounds happier…

ABV: 4.1%

Style: Fruit/Vegetable Beer

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Fruli is a high quality Strawberry Belgian fruit beer, produced at a craft brewery near Ghent. It is a unique blend of white beer and strawberry juice. The juice complements the zestiness of the wheat beer and the result is a balanced and refreshing beer that is packed with strawberry fruit flavour”

Random: My sister and I just planted a Ginko tree in the backyard. The leaves are interesting looking, but it could be my new favorite tree.

This brew poured with a quarter of an inch of white head. The head dissipated quickly and left no lacing on the glass. The body was a cloudy, bright pink color (due to massive amounts of strawberry juice added) with no visible carbonation due to the color. The nose was only one thing: strawberry puree. If you blindfolded me, I’d bet money that this wasn’t a beer and some sort of strawberry smoothie. The taste was even better. It had lots of authentic strawberry taste to the point that I thought I should be picking seeds out of my teeth. Although this beer was a bit one-dimensional, it really worked for me, especially because I like strawberries. The body was of average thickness with moderate carbonation. The finish was long with strawberries. Even though this beer is on the pricy side (due to how much strawberry juice is added), it is definitely a treat and goes down very easily on a hot day. Try one if you see it!
