Finch’s Wet Hot American Wheat

It seems like every brewery that I make a concerted effort to get brews from out-of-state magically starts getting distributed to New Jersey after I’ve made said concerted effort. Finch’s is the newest brewery to add to this list. I’ve tried a few of them and was surprised to see them in the cold case of my local Buy Rite during my last trip there. I picked up this one, which I hadn’t tried yet.

ABV: 5%

Style: American Pale Wheat Ale

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Finch’s Beer Co. is in the business of brewing great, craft beers locally in Chicago, Illinois. We use the best ingredients and take special care to make sure every batch is the best we can brew.”

Random: The can art on this one is not nearly as interesting as the other offerings I’ve had.

This brew poured with a thin, two finger white head that dissipated slowly. It left some lacing on the glass. The body was a cloudy, straw yellow color with moderate carbonation visible. The nose had some lemon rind, wheat, and then a touch of grapefruit hops. The taste was better than the nose. It definitely had more hops than the typical wheat ale. Wheat was present, along with lemon rind and grassy hops. The hop presence was significant for the style. The body was on the thicker side of the style with moderate carbonation. It had a long and hoppy finish with lemon rind. This beer was decent and definitely drinkable, but nothing mind-blowing. I wouldn’t rush back to have this one again.
