Tenacious Traveler Shandy

Here’s another backlogged review from last week. This one is a seasonal shandy that features ginger. Let’s see how it went down.

ABV: 4.4%

Style: Herbed/Spiced Beer

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Driven by thrills and chills, the Tenacious Traveler always set his sights a little higher than everyone else. When the Wright brothers were tinkering and still trying to get off the ground, our Tenacious Traveler was looking to the sky beyond. After years of exhaustive effort, his spaceship finally sat ready. The Tenacious Traveler went through his checklist to make sure everything was in tiptop shape. When TT, as we fondly call him, reached the word ‘libations,’ he wondered, ‘What to bring? What to bring?’ He experimented with various concoctions, and then he discovered just the right refreshing beverage to invigorate his spirits while in the dark depths of space. A ginger shandy—the perfect combination of spice and sweetness! TT excitedly secured numerous bottles of the ginger shandy within easy reach, completed his final preparations, and began the countdown: 3, 2, 1…”

Random: Season 2 of “Carnivale” is definitely better than Season 1.

This one poured with a two finger, white head that dissipated quickly and left no lacing on the glass. The body was crazy hazy (look, I rhymed!) with lots of detritus visible. It was a yellow color with moderate carbonation. The nose was lemon rind and lemonade mostly and relatively light. I didn’t get any ginger on the nose. The taste was really weird. There was huge spice up front, specifically ginger and nutmeg, then cinnamon came through as well. Lemon made an appearance later, but there was way too much spice on it for my liking. It had a moderately thick body and moderate carbonation to go with it. It had a quick finish with spice. This was only alright and nothing I’d rush back to have.
