Flying Dog Mint Chocolate Stout (Brewhouse Rarities)

As usual, I’ve been crazy busy at work. But, at least lately there’s a reason for it. I got a promotion, so I’ve been working longer hours and I’m going to be much busier. I will get to leave earlier on Saturdays too, so that will be nice. Anyways, here’s a beer I had earlier this week.

ABV: 5.7%

Style: American Stout

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Inspired by the chocolate mint herb grown in our staff garden, Mint Chocolate Stout is a dessert beer you can have more than one of. Both cocoa and peppermint are added post-fermentation for subtle sweetness and a refreshing minty finish.”

Random: The Jets look awful in this preseason game.

This brew poured with less than half a finger of light brown head that dissipated quickly and left no lacing on the glass. The body was a dark brown color with no visible carbonation due to the color. Since this was a stout, I let this one warm up for about 15 minutes before sampling. The nose reminded me of melted mint chocolate chip ice cream. The mint was pronounced and I was very excited. The taste wasn’t as good as I was hoping for. The mint was really strong on this one, and I was hoping for more chocolate to balance it out. Unfortunately, the chocolate was too hidden. The body was on the thinner side with moderate carbonation, which was also a bit of a disappointment. It had a long finish with spearmint. I was really excited to try this beer, but it was a big letdown. I wouldn’t have it again.

Untappd Rating: 3.5/5.0
