Brouwerij Huyghe Delirium Red

Ever pick up a beer with absolutely no premediation? That would be what I did with this beer. It’s been over a year since I’ve had anything from this brewery and somehow I still haven’t gotten through the whole Delirium portfolio. After this, I just need to review Delirium Nocturnum and Delirium Noel. Let’s see how it was.

ABV: 8%

Style: Fruit/Vegetable Beer

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Feels like the sound shot of alcohol is igniting the mouth. In reality the tongue and palate are warmed. The taste is characterized by its roundness. The aftertaste is strong, long-lasting and dry bitter.”

Random: The guy I’m playing in fantasy this week has Emmanuel Sanders. I think I’m going to lose. He put up ridiculous points on Thursday.

This beer poured with less than a finger of pink head that dissipated quickly and left no lacing on the glass. The body was a cloudy, dark red color with lots of carbonation visible. The nose had a lot of cherries and cough drops with some yeast as well. The taste was like alcoholic cherry 7-up. The cherry taste was very artificial and as I continued sipping it, it was more like cherry cough syrup than anything. There was little bit of yeast as well, but between the booze and the cherry taste, this was disappointing. The body was on the thick and syrupy side with high carbonation. The finish was long with cherry cough syrup. This beer was not great and a big disappointment from this Belgium brewery. The only thing more disappointing was the fact that this was $6.99 for a single bottle. This beer will not be gracing my fridge again.

Untappd Rating: 3.5/5.0
