So, I’ve been trying to go back in the blog and update with my Untappd ratings. It’s definitely a tedious process and I’ve only gotten to August of 2014. Maybe in the next couple of days I will make more progress. Onto this beer that I picked up and Canal’s. Let’s see how it was.
Style: Russian Imperial Stout
Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Brewed with a monstrous amount of malt and combined with aggressive American hops, this beer is powerful and complex and designed to age. Smokiness is subtle but present and blends nicely with the rich, dark flavors.”
Random: I just took another 3 bags of stuff out. Despite the fact that it was not a lot of stuff, the apartment is looking more bare.
This beer poured with a two finger, tan head that dissipated slowly and left a lot of lacing on my Flying Dog glass. The body was a black color with no visible carbonation due to the color. The nose was really pungent. It had lots of roasted malt, peat smoke, cocoa, and dark chocolate. The taste was spot on for the style. Much like the nose, there was a lot of roasted malt and dark chocolate at first. Coffee came through as well with some smoke. At the end of the sip, there was dark molasses as well. The body is thick and chewy with moderate carbonation and a touch of alcohol warming. It had a long finish with dark chocolate and smoke. For $10.99 a bomber, this broke down to $.50 an ounce. For a really flavorful and solid stout, it was definitely worth it. If you see it around, grab one.
