So, we’re finally getting settled into the new house. I no longer have to use my GPS to get me home from work, which is a good thing. I’m even enjoying my commute since I get to pass the Delaware river on the way. I also now live in a town that has a brewery (River Horse). We definitely have a lot of work to do, and a lot of furniture to buy, but it’s nice having all that space. Let’s discuss something else that was nice…like this beer.
Style: American Double/Imperial Stout
Trivia: This was on the bottle: “On a pilgrimage for immortal craft beer we tripped on these heavenly coffee beans – threw them in and created damn good aromas, a thick fudge-like body, pitch black color and obviously only made it in limited amounts. And the taste… furthermore Jesus!!”
Random: I’m only a few weeks away from end of quarter…definitely not looking forward to that.
This beer poured with a two finger, light brown head that dissipated slowly and left a lot of lacing on the glass. The body was black in color with no carbonation visible due to the color. The nose was big with notes of chocolate and roasted malts initially and then espresso came out. The taste was absolutely amazing. It had huge roasted malt and chocolate notes, then deep espresso that lasted until the finish. Light smoke came through with a touch of vanilla and smoke. There was absolutely no booze warming to this, which was surprising given the high ABV. After it warmed, I got dark fruit as well. It had a thick and chewy body with light carbonation. It had a long chocolate-y finish with espresso. I really enjoyed this beer and it made for a great de-stresser as I was packing. I highly recommend this one, despite it being very expensive at $11.79 for a twelve ounce bottle, which was $.98 an ounce. This was a pricey, yet delightful treat.
