Kentucky Rye Barrel IPA

Posted: April 19, 2015 in American IPA, Lexington Brewing Co., Reviews

We repainted the living room a nice sky blue color. It was an absolute pain to paint, but it really makes the fireplace (which is painted white) pop out. It also gets great light since we have a huge bay window in the front. We’re due to get the couch in a week, which should really look nice and then we have to work on getting the television mounted over the fireplace. Home ownership is lots of fun. Anyways, let’s get to this beer that I picked up from Canal’s in the mix-a-six section.

ABV: 10%

Style: American IPA

Trivia: This beer was released in February, 2015.

Random: This day cannot end fast enough. I hate when Saturdays drag.

This beer poured with a one finger, thick, cream-colored head. It was slow to dissipate and left very limited lacing on the glass. The body was a clear, amber color with high carbonation visible. The nose had rye and some vanilla with light bourbon. The taste was bitter, but was quickly overtaken by bourbon and spicy rye. Vanilla was in there too. What was exceptionally annoying about this beer was the weird medicinal taste at the end which threw the flavor profile complete off. The booze was also very apparent in it, and not in a good way. The body was thick with high carbonation. It had a long bourbon with the weird medicinal finish. For $3.79 a bottle, this broke down to $.32, which was expensive for a beer that didn’t do anything for me. I wouldn’t have this again.

Untappd Rating: 3.5/5.0
