Enlightenment Day Trip (Extra Hoppy Golden Ale)

I love when I get beer gifts from breweries I’ve never heard of and aren’t distroed in Jersey. Let’s see how this beer was.

ABV: 4.7%

Style: Belgian Pale Ale

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “In the words of Doctor Thompson, ‘Every now and then, when your life gets complicated and the weasels start closing in,’ you need to grab your sunglasses and take a day trip. Whether an ambitious trek through the urban jungle of your home city or a quiet walk in the New England woods, day trips offer a temporary truce with the daily stresses. Day Trip: Extra Hoppy Golden Ale, is brewed in celebration of those brief but wondrous escapes. Inspired by a favorite Brussels beer, I brewed Day Trip to have an inviting fruity nose, spicy hop flavor, and a dry bitter finish: the perfect liquid companion for a day of bold wandering. So if you feel that itch to escape the rate race, if only for a day, throw some of this hoppy golden delight in a cooler and lace up your boots. The world is waiting.”

Random: I absolutely love the label art on this beer.

When I popped this open, it exploded all over. Usually, that happens with a corked and caged beer, but not a capped beer. I managed to get a bunch on the counter before I put the bomber in the sink. When I finally got it into the glass, it had a three finger, white head that had lots of tan particles in it. It also took forever to dissipate and left lots of lacing on the glass. The body was a hazy, lemon yellow color with lots of carbonation. The nose had notes of lemon and huge amounts of yeast. The taste was also very yeasty and biscuity. After a few sips, I also picked up some very light spice and grassy bitterness. It had a thicker than expected body with high carbonation. The finish was long and yeasty. This was another beer that was given to me as a gift, so no comments on the price. This beer just didn’t do much for me, and I wouldn’t have it again.
