Nodding Head Berliner Weisse

Posted: July 28, 2015 in Berliner Weissbier, Nodding Head Brewery, Reviews

Even though I worked on Sunday, the other half and I headed to Fishtown for a bite to eat. We ended up at Sancho Pistolas since we enjoy their other restaurant in Center City (Jose Pistolas) so much. Sancho’s was not quite as good as the original, in my opinion. The Brussels sprout taco at Sancho’s was just the leaves, whereas at Jose’s, it’s full sprouts. The falafel taco wasn’t good and the mole meatball bun was too salty. But, they had this beer on tap, which I’ve always wanted to try. They used to have their brewery/restaurant down the street from Pistolas but left and are going to relocate. I’ll definitely be checking them out once they do.

ABV: 3.75%

Style: Berliner Weissbier

Trivia: This beer was introduced by the brewery 11 years ago. Their website is also barren of any information. I’m assuming this because of the relocation.

Random: I love the glasses at Sancho’s. The logo is adorable.

This beer poured with less than a quarter finger of white head. It dissipated almost instantly and left no lacing on the glass. The body was a cloudy yellow with only light carbonation visible. The nose wasn’t as intense as other beers of the style that I’ve had. It had tartness, lemon and green apples. Some grain was there as well. The taste was nicely tart with the same lemon juice and zest and green apples. Wheat and grain came through and allowed the tartness to be relatively tame. It had a thin body with high carbonation. The finish was quick and acidic with lemon. This was a really easy-drinker on a hot day and although it was not the best beer of the style I’ve quaffed, I would have it again.
