It’s the season for pumpkin beers to come out. I’ve started seeing them flood my facebook feed and I just can’t get behind it yet. Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited for the Fall since it’s my favorite season, but I’m going to enjoy the last few weeks of summer. Now, onto a beer that would probably be a good selection for the winter.
Style: American Porter
Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Shall one compare thee to a fair beer, not even this perfect porter before thou will do thee justice. Thou art more complex, brave and cunning. Thou have changed more than a brew will ever. Thou may be lil’, but thy mind is greater than words can speak and beer will ever taste.”
Random: This was brewed at Two Roads Brewing Co. in Stratford, CT.
This brew poured with a half a finger of tan head that dissipated incredibly slowly. It left lots of lacing on the glass. The body was a dark brown with no visible carbonation. The nose was filled with roasted malts, cocoa and dark chocolate. The taste had some licorice along with the cocoa and roasted malts. There was some booze as well, but not as high as the ABV. The body was thick with light carbonation. It had a long and chocolatey finish with licorice. This was $4.75 for the single bottle, which broke down to $.40 per ounce, which is a bit pricey, but within the normal realm of Evil Twin beer prices. I really enjoyed this beer and would have it again, although the licorice was bordering on a bit too dominant. As usual, Evil Twin puts out another outstanding beer.
