Hidden Cove Castoff Session IPA

Posted: September 10, 2015 in American IPA, Hidden Cove Brewing Co., Reviews

The second stop we made was Run-Of-The-Mill Brewery and Publick House. We were hungry and trying to get places checked off the Maine Beer Trail, so this fit the bill. I got a sampler of all of their beers, which ranged from “good” to “meh.” They had a guest tap of cider, which was a nice option as well for people who don’t drink beer. The food was pretty good as well. We had duck confit poutine, which was amazing. The decor was rustic and the service was good. It is worth a visit if you’re in the area.

ABV: 4.5%

Style: American IPA

Trivia: This beer uses Lemon Drop, Cascade and Chinook hops.

Random: This was the second beer that I had at dinner on the first night. We ended up visiting this brewery a few days later.

This beer poured with a one finger, white head that dissipated slowly and left no lacing on the glass. The body had a slight haze to its yellow tone with no carbonation visible. The nose was grassy and had some honey sweetness to it, but for an IPA, even of the session variety, it was a very mellow scent. The taste started with the same honey sweetness and went into very light, grassy bitterness. This didn’t taste like an IPA. It was like a very subtle pale ale, and one that didn’t have much flavor. The body was watery with moderate carbonation. The finish was quick with grass. I was not a fan of this beer at all. I tried it again at the brewery and there was little improvement. I wouldn’t have this again.
