Clown Shoes Cousin Steve And The Lemon Hearts

One of the things that I’m really down with is the fact that Clown Shoes releases New Jersey only beers. This is the second one they’ve released and it has one of my favorite hops, Sorachi Ace.

ABV: 8%

Style: American Double/Imperial IPA

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “New Jersey Only. In outer space, no one can hear you scream. Unless that subsonic sound comes from our NJ/NY/PA agent Cousin Steve, who performs on a interstellar stage for his alien groupies. This IPA has lemon peel and a three part harmony of Sorachi Ace, Mosaic and Lemon Drop hops to create a cosmic concerto.”

Random: The label art on this bottle is really cool.

This brew poured with a three finger, off-white head that took a long time to dissipate. Spider web lacing was left on the sides of my IPA glass. The body was a hazy, dark yellow color. There was a lot of carbonation visible. The nose presented with lemon peel and tropical fruits. There was grain that came through as well. The taste was of the more interesting from the style that I’ve had in awhile. I got lemonheads, lemon zest and then big tropical fruit notes. Some lemongrass was there as well, imparted from the Sorachi Ace hop. It had pine resin and orange as well. The booze was well-hidden. It had a moderately thick body with high carbonation. The finish was quick with lemonheads and lemongrass. The bomber set me back $6.99 ($.32 per ounce). I thought this beer was really interesting, although one was enough for me. If you see it on the shelves in Jersey, grab a bottle, since it’s not available anywhere else.
