Knee Deep Simtra

Posted: March 18, 2016 in American Double/Imperial IPA, Knee Deep Brewing Company, Reviews

I picked up this bomber for one reason, it’s made with only Simcoe and Citra hops, which are the names of my cats. Dumb, I know, but I’m a sucker for a good name on a beer. It also helps that Knee Deep gets pretty good reviews.

ABV: 11.25%

Style: American Double/Imperial IPA

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Simtra Triple IPA delivers a punch in the face with its very dank hop aroma derived from Simcoe and Citra hops. You wanted more hops, you got them”

Random: Simcoe has gotten significant bigger than Citra. It’s like Citra wants to be a kitten forever.

This beer poured with a three finger, thick, off white head. It dissipated slowly and left a lot of lacing on my IPA glass. The body was light orange in color, with slight haze to it and high carbonation was visible despite the cloudiness. The nose had a lot of dank pine and alcohol as well. After a few sniffs, I picked up fresh pine needles too with some pineapple and lemon balm. The taste was filled with lots of pine resin. Grapefruit rind was next with pineapple and peach. Alcohol was noticeable, but not 11% worth. It had a thick and oily mouthfeel with light carbonation. The bitterness was intense without being overpowering. The finish was lengthy with grapefruit rind, pine needles and a mild alcohol burn at the back of the throat. The bomber set me back $10.99, which was $.50 per ounce. I enjoyed this beer quite a bit and would definitely have it again.

Untappd Rating: 4.0/5.0
