The Hop Concept Hull Melon & Blanc IPA

Posted: June 8, 2016 in American IPA, Reviews, The Hop Concept Brewing

Tonight’s selection is another beer from The Hop Concept. I’ve had a few beers from them and been impressed, but this one didn’t leave me floored.

ABV: 8%

Style: American IPA

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Our Hop Freshener series simplifies your choice of which beer to enjoy right now. Just read the name and you’ll know exactly what to expect. Each season, we release a limited edition using different aromatic and flavorful hop combinations to bring out a specific character. All IPAs and all crafted by The Hop Concept, the same team of lifelong brewers behind Port Brewing Company.”

Random: There was no information on the website about this specific beer and it looks like they changed the label design, although the website still reflects the old labels.

This beer poured with a thick, one finger, pure white head. The head stuck around forever and left a lot of lacing on the glass. The body was a clear, light yellow with moderate carbonation. The nose had a lot of bright citrus notes. Specifically, I picked up orange and light floral notes. The taste also had the same citrus as the primary flavor. Oranges and grapefruit segments were there. The floral note was there as well, but not very prevalent. I didn’t pick up any of the melon or strawberry notes that the bottle promised, which was disappointing. The body was light and the alcohol dried the beer out a bit. It had a quick, bitter finish with citrus. A bomber of this was $7 ($.32 per ounce). I wasn’t a huge fan of this beer and was definitely the worst of the series.

Untappd Rating: 3.0/5.0
