Val brought this beer home for me. I’ve never had pecan pie before, so I feel like I may have lost a frame of reference, but I have read some positive reviews of this beer lately. Let’s see how it was.
Style: American Porter
Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Each year we tweak our Pecan Pie Porter. For 2015, we added cold brewed coffee from Atomic Cafe in Beverly, MA. Smooth porter flavors with sweet roast and rich nutty notes resulted. Genghis Pecan, after attacking beer thieving turkeys for 3 years in a row, has now achieved ultimate victory. He reclines eating pie, sipping a cup of coffee under autumn leaves Genghis we salute your valiant Mongolian spirit!”
Random: I’ve recently begun enjoying pecans. I hated them as a kid.
The brew poured with a one finger, tan head. It went away relatively rapidly and left significant lacing on the glass. The body was almost black with some carbonation that I could see despite how dark the beer was. The nose was really roasted with black coffee and dark chocolate. I didn’t get any of the “pie” aspect or pecans. The taste had a bit more depth with cold press coffee and pecans with a touch of sweetness. It had a thick body with low carbonation. The finish was lengthy with coffee. A bomber of this was $9.99, which came to $.45 per ounce. This beer was alright, but I wanted some more pecans. I wouldn’t rush back to have it again.
