Triporteur Kinky Berry

Since I’m up early for work now, I can’t sleep in when I’m off. So, more time to update the blog. Today’s selection is a bottle that Val picked out in New York.

kinkyberry

ABV: 6.9%

Style: Fruit/Vegetable Beer

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “A full option fruit beer. This is NOT a candyshop Fruitbeer based on some inferior beer, this is a pure and complex brew with more as 20 ingredients. A kinky Fruitbeer packed with fruits and finished with dry hopping. Brewed without any artificial sweetener or aroma!”

Random: Despite exposing Val to lots of beer styles, she’s still a sucker for a fruit beer, although she called this beer “sugarless Kool Aid.”

The beer poured with a two finger, pink-tinted head. It dissipated quickly and left no lacing on the glass. The body was a bright reddish color and clear. It had a lot of carbonation visible. The nose was filled with raspberry syrup and yeast. There was a touch of orange flesh too, but raspberry was the dominant scent. The taste had a fruit juice characteristic with raspberry and blueberry, but it wasn’t sour or sweet. As a result, the flavor just seemed very confused to me. It also had a biscuit note, but it didn’t take away from the missteps in the flavor. The body was on the thicker side with high carbonation. It had a quick finish with raspberry. A bottle of this was $8 ($.67 per ounce), which was a bit expensive. I wasn’t a huge fan of this beer. If it was either more tart or more sweet, it would have worked.
