Round Guys The Berliner

One style that I’ve really come to appreciate, especially in the summer, is a good Berliner Weissbier. They’ve really been getting popular, much like the gose. It’s incredibly refreshing and you can throw a few back by the barbecue. This is one I picked up directly from the brewery.

ABV: 3.7%

Style: Berliner Weissbier

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “The ultimate session beer. Brilliant effervescence brings to life the rich lemonade like character. Tart and sour deriving from a by-the-book traditional mash – no boil fermentation. Enjoy straight white from the can. Serves as an excellent base for creativity. Add Raspberry syrup to for a sweet splash of pink. Woodruff syrup for a marshmallowy green. Or simply build your own berliner-mosa. Try it. Explore it. Enjoy it.”

Random: This beer comes in at 1 IBU.

The brew poured with a one finger, white head that dissipated instantly. It left no lacing on the glass. The body was a clear, straw yellow with moderate carbonation. The nose was sour with lemon and lime notes. The taste was also quite sour. It had a lot of lactobacillus to it along with lemon-lime soda sweetness. It also had some green apple jolly rancher to it that was a bit off-putting. The body was light with intense carbonation. It had a quick and sour finish with lime peel. A can of this was $1.67, which broke down to $.14 per ounce. I wanted to like this beer, but the green apple note didn’t mesh with the lemon-lime soda note. I wouldn’t have it again.
