Founders Mango Magnifico

Val is away today, so after doing a lot of chores around the house, I’ve settled into a documentary series about British castles and thought I’d get caught up on the blog. She bought me this beer after I had a really bad day. Let’s see how it was.

ABV: 10%

Style: Fruit/Vegetable Beer

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Mango Magnifico is a high-gravity fruit beer brewed with mango and a touch of habaneros to add just the right amount of heat. The delicate flavors imparted by the sweet richness of the mango are punctuated perfectly by the subtle heat of the habaneros, proving that fruit beers do not have to be one-note. Each 750mL bottle of this 10% ABV ale is both sophisticated and refreshing, making it the perfect beer to share… or to keep all to yourself. Mango Magnifico is part of a long lineage of Founders’ fruit beers, including Rubaeus, Cerise, Blushing Monk and Big Lushious.”

Random: Fresh mango is one of my favorite things in the summer.

The beer poured with a two finger, thick and soapy orange-tinged head. It dissipated quickly and left no lacing on the glass. The body was a clear, bright orange with a lot of carbonation visible. The nose had a lot of mango and apricot. It had a lot of fruit sweetness that was almost perfume-like. The taste was not nearly as good as the nose. There was still a significant mango presence, but it had an artificial taste to it. Apricot wasn’t as pronounced. It had intense heat from the habanero, but it wasn’t overwhelming. It hit right in the back of the throat. The body was medium thickness with a lot of carbonation. The finish was lengthy and hot, although it was from the hot pepper and not the booze. A bomber of this was $8.99, which came to $.41 per ounce. I liked this beer, but it needed some refining.

Untappd Rating: 3.5/5.0
