Flying Dog Tropical Bitch

When I first got into beer, one of my go-to beers was Flying Dog Raging Bitch (read my review of it here). I loved the integration of the hop flavor with Belgian yeast and it’s a beer that I still have with relative frequency. Val found this variant of Raging Bitch for me at the local liquor store and I was curious to see if this beer was a similar experience.

ABV: 8%

Style: American IPA

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Pineapple and mango dominate with subtle passionfruit and sticky sweet, yet crisply bitter, hop notes. Give this beer a whirl with spicy Mexican and you’ll never go back to a mango margarita again.”

Random: I’m watching “Hollywood Game Night” and they are playing a game where they have to crank a jack in the box that shoots out confetti.

This beer poured with a two finger, slightly off white head. It took awhile to dissipated and left some lacing on the glass with a crown as well. The body was a dusky orange color with lots of carbonation visible. The nose started with a lot of bright citrus – specifically orange. Then, the tropical fruit came through next with notes of pineapple, papaya and mango. I didn’t get any malt on the nose. The taste was aggressively bitter with more grapefruit then orange. The tropical fruit came next and pineapple stood out to me. It also had a certain herbal note with sage and white pepper. Again, no malt came through. The alcohol was well-integrated and it had a thick body. There was lots of carbonation to balance out the flavor. It had a lengthy finish with tropical fruit and strong bitterness. A single bottle of this was $1.92, which broke down to $.16 per ounce. I really enjoyed this beer and would highly recommend it.
