Today’s selection is another one from the Beer Camp variety package. Although I like the concept of it, the beers tend to be hit or miss. Hopefully this one is decent.
Style: American Double/Imperial IPA
Trivia: According to the brewery website, “The city of Moxee, WA, is in the heart of the Yakima Valley hop growing region and this Imperial Session IPA—a style contradiction—honors the Pacific Northwest’s hop-bomb heritage. Moxee-Moron features hops in the mash, the kettle, the Hop Torpedo, and the fermenter for ultra-complex hop aromas and flavors in an ironically named package.”
Random: The cats finally sit on the new cat tree that we got them. They like to sit on the top of it and watch the neighbor’s dogs.
The beer poured with a one finger, white head. It dissipated quickly and left a lot of lacing on the glass. The body was a clear, bright orange with moderate carbonation. The nose had a lot of pine needles and pine sap. There was some citrus as well with pomelo and orange peel, but this was definitely a dank hop bomb. The taste started with caramel malt sweetness and quickly went into fruit cup syrup, pine needles and some red berries. It had a grassy and herbal note as well. Even though the ABV was relatively light for a double IPA, there was some astringency from the booze. It had a medium thick body with moderate carbonation, which worked for this beer. The finish was lengthy with grassy notes and a touch of green NyQuil. I liked this beer a lot, even though I recall the mixed pack being a bit expensive. I would recommend this one again if it gets re-released.
