Edmund’s Oast Peanut Butter & Jelly

Posted: March 1, 2017 in American Brown Ale, Edmund's Oast, Reviews

This was the beer that Valentina ordered. According to the server, this is the most popular beer they have there, which was surprising since I can’t see it pairing all that well with food. But, peanut butter beers are all the rage now, so she wanted to give it a try.

peanutbutterjelly

ABV: 5.5%

Style: American Brown Ale

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Brewed with all the fixin’s for a sandwich in a glass kind of experience.”

Random: This comes in at 18 IBUs.

This beer poured with a finger of a slightly off white head. It dissipated slowly, but left the glass clean. The body was a cloudy, light brown color with moderate carbonation visible. The nose was exactly like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It had brown bread, smooth peanut butter and grape jelly. The jelly characteristic was on the sweeter side. The taste started with the grape jelly sweetness and was followed up by peanut butter, but the jelly was the stronger note. The bread manifested again as a brown bread, which wasn’t surprising since the base was towards a brown ale. It had a wheat characteristic as well. The body was medium thickness with enough carbonation to throw this down without much issue. The finish was lengthy with grape jelly. I enjoyed this beer more when I started sipping on it and the novelty of it was captivating. This is a beer that I’m glad that I tried, but I wouldn’t have more than one.
