Flagship APA

After the show, we ended up at Chelsea Market at a bar to grab a snack and a beer. This beer was the only one on tap that I hadn’t tried.

ABV: 6.2%

Style: American Pale Ale

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “American style pale ales are defined by the use of American grown hops. The hop profile of Flagship APA includes an upfront bitterness complemented with citrus and pine-like aromas followed by a small burst of tropical fruit. Malted barley provides a deep auburn color and a sweet, biscuit-like, backbone that helps the flavor balance nicely with the bitterness from the hops. The mouth-feel is medium bodied with a hoppy and crisp finish making this quenching offering the perfect accompaniment to your favorite pub food.”

Random: We’re watching “Tiny House Hunters.” I can’t believe that people actually want to live in a large shed.

The beer poured with a half a finger of cream-colored head. It dissipated slowly and left some lacing on the glass. The body was a hazy, amber color with no visible carbonation. The nose was mild with grass and a touch of caramel malt. The taste was much more malty up front, which was surprising for the style. It had caramel malt and toasted malt and transitioned into grass with some pine resin. I didn’t get any of the tropical fruit, which would have helped the flavor. The body was thin with high carbonation. It had a quick finish with caramel malt. I wasn’t a big fan of this beer. With all of the pale ales out there, this one did not stand out.
