Lagunitas Tuberfest

My travel schedule at my old job was definitely something. I would fly back Saturday afternoons, after running a load out and field some calls on my ride home from the Philadelphia airport. I would have just enough time to do laundry, grab some food with Val and then head back to the airport first thing Monday morning. One of the Saturdays that I was home, we headed to a local pub whose food (and beer list) have really improved. This was the first selection that I had there.

tuberfest

ABV: 7.5%

Style: Marzen/Oktoberfest

Trivia: According to beerstreetjournal.com, ” Lagunitas Tuberfest is a head-on collision of a malty fest beer you’re chugging as fall rolls around, with the unique Idaho 7 hop. The result in your glass is perfectly put by the brewery… Zing-y. Plus a little bit boozy. 7.5% ABV if you’re asking. This is one fall lager that won’t be blending into the shelve anytime soon. Lagunitas Tuberfest is available for a limited time in 12 ounce bottles and draft.”

Random: The first time we went to this bar, we sat by a fountain that kept splashing Val. Needless to say, we never sat at that table again.

This beer poured with a half a finger of ecru colored head that dissipated quickly. It left some lacing on the glass. The body was a mahogany color with light carbonation visible. The nose was hoppier than I expected for the style, although it shouldn’t surprise me coming from Lagunitas. It also had a touch of booze along with caramel sweetness from the malt. The taste was maltier than the nose, but still had some grassy hops. Notes of caramel, toffee and old leaves came through with alcohol. It had a medium thick body with high carbonation. The finish was lengthy with caramel and leaves. This beer was a different interpretation for the style and the alcohol was too prevalent for me. I wouldn’t rush back to this one.
