Kane HopLab: Motueka

Posted: June 12, 2017 in American IPA, Kane Brewing Company, Reviews

Where we moved is a bit farther from Kane Brewery. Now, it takes a little over an hour to get there, so I don’t get there as much as I should. But, they distribute their beers to a few of the bars and restaurants by me, so I don’t miss out on that much.

ABV: 7.4%

Style: American IPA

Trivia: According to nzhops.co.nz, “An excellent hop in many applications from first kettle additions through to late gift. This hop offers a unique aroma and flavour profile suitable for producing bigger styles. Excellent when employed in multiple additions from a single hop bill and sits well on the palate to balance speciality malt sweetness. An excellent variety for a wide range of styles from Saison through to Pilsners.”

Random: They said that this hop gives a “mojito” characteristic.

The beer poured with a quarter of a finger of white head that dissipated at a moderate pace. It left a decent amount of lacing on the glass. The body was hazy and yellow with no visible carbonation. The nose was filled with tropical fruit. I specifically got mango and pineapple. The taste was even more tropical than the nose. There was the same mango and pineapple, but it also had green apple Jolly ranchers. Grass and a touch of malt finished up the sip. It had a medium body with moderate carbonation. The finish was quick with tropical fruit. I loved this beer and all of the tropical fruit notes that shone through. If you see this beer when you’re out and about, give it a shot.

Untappd Rating: 4.5/5.0
