Melovino Berry Boku

Val had been wanting to try this mead for awhile, so we cracked open the bottle one night. She ended up not being a fan of this one either.

berryboku

ABV: 14%

Style: Mead

Trivia: According to the meadery website, “Our ridiculously delicious mixed berry mead that is sweet, tart, and full of flavor. A succulent blend of honey and a tremendous amount of mixed berry flavor come together in this tart and richly dense recipe! Jam packed with a big berry punch of raspberry and blackcurrants upfront, with blueberry, blackberry, & strawberry supporting every sip in the background. It’s no longer berry chic, it is Berry BOKU!. 500ml @ 14% abv. Enjoy slightly chilled or at room temperature. Try enjoying some Berry Boku with our Blueberry Ricotta Cake”

Random: This was the first meadery in New Jersey.

The body was a dark red color that I couldn’t see through. The nose was intensely fragrant with a lot of berries. I specifically noted blueberries, blackberries and currants. Raspberries came through as well. I couldn’t pick up much in the way of strawberry. There was a noted alcohol presence as well. The taste was one step away from a berry balsamic vinegar. There was a lot of tartness and unripe blueberry and blackberry. It had a sweet and syrupy honey note with warming alcohol. The body was thick and dense. The finish was lengthy with tart raspberry and currant. A bottle of this wasn’t cheap at $22 ($1.30 per ounce). I wasn’t a huge fan of this mead and had trouble getting it down. I think it would do better poured on top of an angel’s food cake. I don’t feel the need to have this one again.
