It’s not really stout weather, but I love SingleCut beers. I’m starting to see distribution of their beers increase, especially in the Philadelphia area. Although I typically have their hoppy beers, I had to see what they did with a big stout.
Style: American Double/Imperial Stout
Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Our biggest beer to date, created in the great magnetic field. Super complex richness of mega-chocolate, roast, vanilla and coffee in a smooth, ester overtoned monster of a brew. We’ll be aging this for 8 months and releasing it in Winter of ’15.”
Random: I keep asking Val why we don’t watch “Mr. Robot” and apparently we keep DVRing it and deleting it because we never have time to watch it.
The beer poured with a quarter of a finger of tan head. It went away quickly and left no lacing on the glass. The body was an inky black with no carbonation visible due to the color. The nose had some wood, smoke, roasted malts, and espresso. It also had a lot of dark chocolate shavings. The taste had a sweetness that reminded me of maple syrup, although I don’t think there is any in the beer. It had ash and smoke with light alcohol that was quickly followed up by bitter dark chocolat.e It had a thick and chewy body with some booze warming and light carbonation. The finish was lengthy and bitter with wood ash and dark chocolate. This bomber set me back $10 ($.45 per ounce), which was on the more expensive side, but completely worth it. The only downfall? Now I have to search for the barrel aged version.
