As a child, my parents like to vacation in Hawaii. I enjoyed all of the surfing and beach time, but there was also a lot of great hiking in the area. The stars out there were unlike anything I have ever seen stateside. One of the other things that was different was the pineapple. I have never tasted pineapple as sweet or fresh as in Hawaii. I hope this beer delivers on that.
Style: American Pale Wheat Ale
Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Maui Gold pineapple gives sweet aroma to this smooth-bodied, tropical brew.”
Random: I think Val would enjoy Hawaii.
The beer poured with a half a finger of pure white head. It dissipated quickly and left a small amount of lacing on the glass. It also left a tiny crown on top of the dirty yellow body of the beer that had a lot of carbonation visible. The nose presented with wheat and a lot of fresh pineapple. The pineapple was fresh and really strong. The taste was also filled with pineapple juice and chunks with wheat. I kept trying to find other notes in the beer, but I struggled. The body was on the lighter side with a lot of carbonation. It had a lengthy finish with pineapple rings and pineapple juice. A can of this was $2.50, which broke down to $.20 per ounce. I assume that they slightly changed the recipe of this from the original and in a world of fruit flavored beers, this one actually delivered for me. I would get this again and pair it with pork.
