Sea Dog Sunfish

When Val and I went to Maine, we visited one of Sea Dog’s brewery restaurants so we could get the stamp from them on the Maine Beer Trail. It was empty. We didn’t try the food and I had a sampler beer there and it was decent. I’ve also reviewed some of their other fruit beers, which used to be a staple for me 8 years ago. Let’s see how this was.

ABV: 4.6%

Style: American Pale Wheat Ale

Trivia: This is a Summer seasonal from Sea Dog (I tried this in June).

Random: The dog on the label is named “Barney.”

The beer poured with a two finger, ecru colored head that was quite fluffy. It took awhile to go away, but didn’t leave a lot of lacing on the glass. The body was an orange-yellow that had some cloudiness to it and moderate carbonation. The aroma was very fruity. It had peaches and lemons and oranges. It had some honey sweetness as well with white bread. The taste was also fruity. It had the same notes of peaches, lemons and oranges along with pineapple. The honey note was more pronounced in the flavor. It had a bready note at the end of the sip. The beer was light and crisp with medium amounts of carbonation. The finish was quick and clean with a touch of honey. A bottle of this was $1.67, which broke down to $.14 per ounce. I thought this beer made for a great drinker at a barbecue. I would have this again, although it won’t blow your mind.
