Samuel Adams Tropic Of Yuzu

I started watching the new show on USA about the Tupac and Biggie murders. I thought that it would be more like the Menendez murder show, but it’s not nearly as good. I’ll give it another few episodes before I give up on it. Anyways, let’s get to the beer.

ABV: 6%

Style: Herbed/Spiced Beer

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “This distinctive beer gets a citrusy punch from yuzu, a Japanese fruit with juicy hints of Mandarin orange and grapefruit. The beer’s slightly tart character is balanced by the kick of Grains of Paradise, which add a peppery note the wheat and citrus for a subtle, spicy finish.”

Random: This beer comes in at 20 IBUs.

The beer poured with half a finger of white head. It dissipated at a moderate pace and left some lacing on the glass. The body was a clear, straw yellow with a lot of carbonation visible. The nose had a lot of fruit, specifically mango, grapefruit and pineapple. There was some yuzu as well. The taste had a bit more depth with the same bright tropical fruit notes of mango and yuzu. It had a sweetness from the Mandarin oranges as well. There was a spice note with white peppercorns and Grains of Paradise. The fruit overtook the more nuanced flavors of the spice. The body was medium thickness and high carbonation. The finish was instant and fruity. I don’t remember how much I paid for the beer, but I can’t imagine that it was super expensive. I enjoyed the beer, I just think that it needs to be tweaked a touch.
