B. Nektar Scurvy Shyster Bastard

We’re getting to end of month, which is always insanely busy at work, especially in the Summer. We’re stocking distribution centers in advance of Christmas so they can make sure everything is out. I never realized before this job how early businesses get ready for Christmas and how much they depend on it for revenue. But, I digress. This mead is one that I felt the need to pick up because it’s been awhile since I had a mead from B. Nektar. Let’s see how it was.

ABV: 12%

Style: Mead

Trivia: According to the meadery website, “Tart grapefruit juice balanced with the sweetness of white grape juice and honey. A fresh hop bitterness accentuates the brightness of clean grapefruit zest and elderflower notes. Medium bodied with a mossy hop and grapefruit zest bitterness on the semi-dry finish.”

Random: One thing about B. Nektar is that their labels are always unique.

The mead poured still and a greenish-yellow color. It was completely clear. The nose started with honey (no big shock there) and a lot of grapefruit juice. I picked up some grass and white grape juice as well. The taste started with a bit more floral notes. It quickly went into honey and grapefruit zest. There was a slight burn from the alcohol that was pretty apparent. The body was on the thicker side and still. It had a lengthy and sticky finish with wildflower honey and grapefruit. I picked this bottle up for $13.49, which came to $.80 per ounce. This was an enjoyable and fruity mead that I would get again.
