Over Labor Day weekend, Val and I went down to DC for the long weekend. We love the food in DC and we have some friends down there as well. This was the only beer I had a chance to review there.
Style: American Wild Ale
Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Hi there! We have been hard at work building this brewery keeping in mind sustainable practices and using local materials and craftsmen. We love our town of Berlin, Maryland and hope you join us in our taproom for a couple of pints and growlers. Our goal is to produce distinctive beers whose quality is unsurpassed using new and traditional brewing methods.”
Random: I had this beer at Birch and Barley in DC.
The beer poured with no head on top of a dark reddish-brown body. The beer was incredibly cloudy and it was difficult to see any carbonation through it. The nose was filled with fresh strawberries and blueberries along with a touch of lactose sweetness. It had a strawberry jam note as well but was quickly followed up by some white vinegar. The taste started with blueberry and strawberry jam. It then went into a lot of tartness, like the jam was mixed with vinegar and a touch of funk. It reminded me of Sour Patch kids. The body was on the lighter side with lots of carbonation. The finish was rather quick with vinegar. I thought this beer was outstanding and I was glad that I got to try it. This one is worth searching out.
