Barrier Money

Happy New Year’s! I’ll be hanging out with some family today before I go back to work.

ABV: 7.3%

Style: American IPA

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Barrier Brewing Co. is located along the south shore of Long Island in beautiful Oceanside, NY. Our first batches started rolling out to the public in June of 2010. The first year of production yielded more than 700bbls of beer using our 1-barrel system. In 2012, the brewery was relocated to a larger space and upgraded to a 5-barrel brewhouse, with 1500bbl of initial capacity. The new brewery operated only a few short months before being severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy. After several months of rebuilding, along with some tremendous support from fellow brewers and the local beer community, Barrier reopened in February 2013, and the fermentors have been bubbling away ever since. In 2017, Barrier upgraded its brewhouse to a 20bbl 3 vessel system capable of brewing upwards of 15,000bbl/yr. Throughout the year, Barrier produces numerous brands and styles available in draft, cans, bottles. In addition, we have limited specialty releases available only through the brewery’s tasting room. Barrier is currently distributed throughout NYS, with other territories on the horizon.”

Random: This is another brewery that I haven’t had time to visit yet.

This poured with a two finger, white head that took forever to dissipate. The head was fluffy and left some nice lacing on the glass. The body was a straw yellow color that was cloudy. As a result, I couldn’t see much lacing on the glass. The nose was filled with grapefruit notes and green onion. The taste was overwhelmingly green onion. It had some cilantro and then went into grapefruit. There was pineapple as well. The body was moderately thick with enough carbonation. The finish was lengthy with green onion. A can of this was $5, which came to $.31 per ounce. I’m very sensitive to onions, especially since Val hates them. I just didn’t like this beer, and especially due to the price, I wouldn’t revisit it.
