Czig Meister The Admiral’s Flagship – U.S.S. Citra

When Val and I were in the city for the Stadium Series, we went to this restaurant in Navy Yard called Bar Amis. It’s a Vetri restaurant and the food was absolutely amazing. Everything we got was amazing. It’s a great stop for food before a game.

ABV: 8.8%

Style: American Double/Imperial IPA

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “The Czigler family’s passion for beer and the brewing process started when Matthew Czigler began to home brew as a hobby. Family and friends would always look forward to Matt bringing a variety of delicious beers to every get together. After all the positive feedback, Matt decided to have a career change that the whole family supported. The commitment to excellence in brewing is forged by our motto ‘Master Your Craft’. The year round and seasonal beers are brewed to traditional old world classic standards. The theme of our brewery is old world crafts. The year round beers are named after these old world crafts.”

Random: I’ve been trying to focus a bit more on Jersey beers. I just wish I had more time to visit the actual breweries.

This beer poured with a one finger, off white head. It dissipated quickly and left some lacing on the glass. The body was a slightly cloudy, orange color with moderate carbonation. The nose was filled with citrus. I picked up grapefruit and orange segments. The taste was much of the same. I picked up some grapefruit juice along with grapefruit rind. There was a touch of malt at the end. The body was on the lighter side, but the alcohol did make an appearance. It had a quick finish with grapefruit. I thought this beer was alright, but I wouldn’t rush back to have it again.
