Tonight’s beer is one of the newer beers from Troegs. It came out the week after we visited the brewery.
Style: American Double/Imperial IPA
Trivia: According to the brewery website, “When we make our annual pilgrimage to the hop-growing hotbed of Yakima Valley, we’re like kids in a candy store. We eyeball the hops on the bines, crush them in our hands and rub them til their oils fill the air. LolliHop brings together three of our favorites. Dry-hopping with Citra and Mosaic layers in notes of orange, grapefruit and melon, while Azacca in the kettle adds hints of papaya and pineapple. Locally harvested rustic pale malt provides the backbone, and wheat and oats make this beer silky smooth with a touch of haze.”
Random: I don’t know how I didn’t notice how terrible this photo was.
This beer poured with a two finger, slightly off white head. It dissipated at a moderate pace and left some lacing on the glass. The body was hazy and bright orange in color. Due to the cloudiness, I could not see any carbonation. The nose had a lot of citrus up front. I picked up orange zest, grapefruit pith and lemon juice. There was an apple note as well with a touch of honeydew. I didn’t pick up any tropical fruit in the nose. The taste had a bit more tropical fruit, though. I picked up mango and pineapple and then it transitioned into a lot of grapefruit segments. The body was on the medium side with just enough carbonation. The finish was lengthy and sticky with grapefruit. I enjoyed this beer a lot and would definitely have this again.
