Troegs Troegenator – Bourbon Barrel-Aged

Val and I started watching “Fosse/Verdon.” I really like it and wasn’t familiar with his or Gwen Verdon’s work prior to the show. The only thing that is confusing is how they keep switching timelines without warning. For some reason, it can’t hold Val’s interest. We have about half the mini-series left, so hopefully she starts liking it better.

ABV: 11.5%

Style: Doppelbock

Trivia: According to the brewery website, “Settle in for an alternate take on Troegenator. An extended stay in bourbon barrels has transformed this fiercely loved double bock into a nuanced layer cake of toasted coconut, creme brûlée, and whiskey-soaked oak. Way back when, Troegenator caught everyone – including us – by surprise, but putting it in barrels was a sure thing. Opulent, silky and downright otherworldly, Bourbon Barrel-Aged Troegenator is for the believers.”

Random: This beer comes in at 25 IBUs.

The beer poured with a half a finger of off-white head. It dissipated quickly and left a little bit of lacing on the glass. The body was a clear, dark brown with light carbonation visible. The nose was filled with bourbon, charred wood and vanilla. The taste had a bit more depth. It had a lot of nuttiness along with sweet caramel. There was some raisin as well. The bourbon was huge on the flavor and was a bit overwhelming. The alcohol on this was noticeable. The body was on the medium side with light carbonation. It had a lengthy finish with bourbon and char. I enjoyed this beer, it was just a bit intense on the bourbon.
