Now that I made my trip to Troegs, I’m seeing their limited edition corked and caged bottles all over now. Despite that, I have never seen this one on the shelves.
Style: American Wild Ale
Trivia: According to the brewery website, “One day, we muddled some fresh blackberries with brown sugar, lemon juice and bourbon. ‘Mmm,’ we thought. ‘This should be a beer.’ Blackberry Tizzy is that spirited daydream come true. Sour fermentation tempers the juicy blackberries with a touch of tartness, and a spell in bourbon barrels delivers ripples of oak and toasted coconut.”
Random: This beer is also only available in corked and caged bottles and draft.
The beer poured with a half a finger of cream-colored head. It dissipated almost instantly and left no lacing on the glass. The body was a dark brown color with tinges of purple. There was no visible carbonation. The nose was filled with fruit. I picked up notes of blackberries, blueberries and apricot. I picked up some bourbon as well. The taste had a lot of fresh fruit as well. The dominant flavor was blackberry. I picked up the same blueberry and apricot as well. There was a slight brown sugar sweetness. It had a nice yeast characteristic as well. There was a slight alcohol heat as well. The body was on the thicker side with high carbonation. It had a lengthy finish with lots of blackberries. I really enjoyed this beer and wish I picked up more than one bottle.
