The other half picked a six-pack of this up a few weeks back. I wanted to try it because I had never had a German grapefruit hefeweizen before. Let’s see how this one was.

ABV: 2.5%

Style: Hefeweizen

Trivia: According to halftimebeverage.com, “Schofferhofer Grapefruit us the unique combination of sparkling smooth Schofferhofer Hefeweizen with grapefruit flavoring. A refreshing well-rounded taste with tangy character and hints of sweetness is pleasing to the palate.”

Random: I think the majority of people featured on “House Hunters” are insanely irritating.

This brew poured with a half a finger of white head that dissipated quickly and left no lacing on the glass, but left about a quarter of an inch of crown on top. The body was a pinkish-orange color and incredibly cloudy. It had moderate to high carbonation visible. The nose was really, really strong. It smelled like straight grapefruit juice. There was grapefruit rind as well. The taste was like grapefruit soda. There was an obvious dominance of grapefruit juice, but it wasn’t insanely bitter. There was also notes of peach and some sweetness to it. Perhaps a little wheat as well, but it really tasted like sweetened grapefruit soda to me. The body was on the light side with high carbonation. It had a long finish with grapefruit. I can see why this is termed by some as a “breakfast beer,” due to the low ABV and the bright citrus notes from the grapefruit. If you’re into grapefruit juice, this is definitely a beer to check out. I enjoyed it thoroughly for what it was.
