Red Stripe

Yet another crazy day. Although, I really can’t complain because when I’m really busy the day goes by pretty quickly. I went to the gym after work and was pretty sore from the day before. My shorts don’t fit me any more and nearly fell down in the middle of a set. I seriously think it’s time to buy new shorts. So, onto the selection for tonight. One of the guys that I work with told me that this is his favorite beer. For some reason, I just can’t get excited about having this brew tonight, especially with lots of hoppy brews awaiting me in the fridge. This is probably because I’m just not a fan of the style, but I guess I have to go drag myself to the beer fridge and grab it.

ABV: 4.7%

Trivia: According to wikipedia, “Desnoes and Geddes Limited (D&G) is a Jamaican brewer and beverage producer. D&G was formed in 1918 by Eugene Peter Desnoes and Thomas Hargreaves Geddes, who combined their two shops into one business. It produces one of Jamaica’s best-known exports, Red Stripe beer and also Old Jamaica Ginger Beer. It also brews other malt beverages for the local market under the Red Stripe Light, Dragon Stout, Malta (nonalcoholic), Smirnoff Ice, Guinness, and Heineken brand names. Only a small portion of D&G’s shares are publicly traded. British beverage group Diageo PLC is the ultimate parent company. It has a 58 percent holding in D&G through Udiam Holdings AB of Sweden. D&G also made soft drinks, including the popular Ting, but sold that division to PepsiCo in 1999.”

Random: Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day and I will NOT be drinking Irish beer. I think I’m going to crack open another lambic.

The beer poured with a one finger white head that dissipated quickly and left no lacing on the glass. The body was a clear straw yellow with moderate carbonation. This does not look like my type of beer. The nose had a hint of metal, a little bit of malt and corn. But, the nose was really, really muted. On the taste, the first thing that came out is how bland this brew is. I got a lot of carbonation and then a hint of malt and a bit of sweetness at the end. Although it’s definitely a crisp beer, it’s just boring. I also wasn’t a fan of the hint of skunkiness that I got with a hint of metal. The finish came across with the same metallic taste. I wouldn’t have this beer again. I would rather have a Bud Light.
